Healthy Almonds Cultivation Guidance for Farmers in India

Preparing Fields 

Before cultivating almonds, the field should be prepared well because once its plants are planted, they give fruit for 40 to 50 years. This will make the area completely flat.

Planting Method

Plants should be healthy and branched. Plants are planted by making a small pit in the prepared holes. Before planting the plants, these pits made inside the cavities should be treated with cow urine or Bavistin.

Irrigation & Fertiliser 

Almond plants do not require much irrigation. This is because its plants do not need much water in the beginning to grow. Therefore, watering twice a week in the summer and once in the winter is sufficient. But 5 to 8 irrigations are required in a year when the plant is fully developed. Therefore, the drip method is considered the best for irrigation of almond plants.

Almond plants require a sufficient amount of fertiliser to grow well. When the pits are being prepared to give the proper amount of fertiliser, at that time, about 20 to 25 kg of old cow dung should be mixed well with the soil and filled in the holes. In addition, 100 grams should be given to the plants in three years. After this, when the plants start bearing fruit, the amount of fertiliser should be increased according to the need.

Harvesting 

Almonds are harvested in the fall after they are fully ripe. Its plants start giving whole fruits after 5 to 7 years. In this, the fruits are ready to ripen after 8 months of flowering. When the colour of almond kernels changes from green to yellow, those kernels start falling on their own if they are not broken for a long time. After plucking, the fruits are dried in shady places. And the kernels have dried, they are cracked, and the almond kernel is removed from them.
