The Dark Side of Social Media
Every side of a coin has a dark side. This is true of all things, including social media. While it’s true that social media can be used for good… it can also be used for evil. In fact, it’s being used for evil more than ever before. There are three primary ways people use social media for evil: slander, shaming and blackmail.
All three of these are bad and need to be stopped.
Slander is when someone lies about another person. They make up lies about that person, or spread rumours about them. Slander is not only hurtful, but it’s illegal. Most slanderous lies are defamatory, which means they attack the character of the person they’re making false claims about. Defamatory lies are considered to be “libellous” and may be actionable.
How the Internet is turning people into Prisoners
When it comes to social media, a lot of us get so caught up in it that we forget that we’re actually just a click away from being imprisoned. The internet is a dangerous place, and with the way things are going, soon the only people who will be able to communicate with each other will be those who are either connected to a large corporation or government agency.
In today’s world, you can’t stop technology from being a part of our lives. It’s there in the car, the kitchen, the bathroom and even the bedroom. While technology has given us the ability to do some amazing things, it’s also turned a large number of people into prisoners. This isn’t necessarily bad, as we now have the opportunity to work remotely from anywhere.
But just like everything else in life, the more you use a tool, the less capable of doing it yourself you become. The more time we spend using these tools, the less time we have for the real activities that make up our day. We are spending more and more time away from our friends and family, our jobs and our lives.
